SPEED dating is to become a regular event at Warrington, following the success of the first-ever speed dating event at the Orford Jubilee Neighbou Hub last month Organisers LiveWire have nnounced the session will be returning regularly throughout the rest of the year — giving more participants the chance to meet new people in the familiar setting of a library.
The free speed dating evenings are to be held on the last Wednesday of March, June, and September — with a December date to be confirmed. It was attended by around 30 people who enjoyed coffee and cake and the chance to meet and chat with new people, in the welcoming and familiar setting of a library. Overwhelmingly people told us they enjoyed it and said it was a good way to meet new people, and that they hope we organise similar events in the future. Quite a few people made comments about how they liked the idea it was in a library rather than a bar or club because they felt safe, and it was nice to meet people face to face rather than virtually.
It was also a great way to engage with the community and help combat potential social isolation — all important functions of libraries.

Public libraries are shedding their stuffy, book-bound image as fast as events such as “speed friending,” a platonic version of speed dating.
This lesson is an individual assignment on the first day unless the teacher has so many students that they opt to have multiple students play a single character and a group activity on the second day. The teacher has some leeway as to whether they want to provide certain primary and secondary sources or whether they want to treat it as more of a research assignment, where students can search for their own information.
Students tend to learn facts about different presidents but sometimes they have trouble relating presidents to one another and making connections over time. It gives the students an opportunity to become a certain president — to look at presidents in a slightly different manner and to give them the experience of thinking as they did and walking around in their heads for a little while. On Wednesday, July 10 , come to the Farmington Libraries and try speed dating with books. This event will take place at p. How it works: the librarians will set up tables with books laid out. Each participant will take a seat and have a few minutes with each book to read the description, flip through the pages, study the language, and judge it by its cover.
When time is up, each participant will then move to the next book and so on until everyone has had the chance to examine each book. Scorecards will be provided.
